Pear and Orange Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 8 cups (3-1/2 pounds) Pacific Northwest Canned Pears, in juice, drained
  • 8 cups milk
  • 8 cups orange juice
  • 3/4 cup (9 ounces) honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup pure vanilla extract

Method

Working in batches with a blender, or using an immersion blender, combine the pears with the milk, orange juice, honey, pepper and vanilla. Blend until smooth and pour into 1-cup drinking containers with lids. Chill until ready to serve.

Makes 24 (one cup) servings

  • 1 no. 10 can pears, Pacific Northwest, canned, sliced, extra light syrup, drained*
  • 2 qts milk, low fat
  • 2 qts juice, orange
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper, finely ground
  • 1/4 cup vanilla extract

Method

CCP: No bare hand contact with ready to eat food.

1. Chill pears overnight in the refrigerator.

2. Working in batches with a blender or an immersion blender, combine the pears with the milk, orange juice, honey, pepper and vanilla. Blend until smooth and pour into 8-ounce cups with lids. Chill until ready to serve. Note: For additional flavor, consider blending in 2 Tbsp fresh orange zest.

CCP: Hold and serve at 41° F or lower.

*We recommend using only U.S. grown and canned pears for the best flavor, quality, texture and yield.
